Privacy policy
What Bettitips collects, why, how long it is kept, and how to make us delete it. Browsing this site anonymously is the default, not a setting you have to find.

The short version
If you only read pages and use calculators, we do not ask for your name, we do not create an account for you, and we set no cookies. Calculators run entirely in your browser β the numbers you type are never sent to us.
You give us personal data only when you choose to: by creating an account, or by sending us a message. Everything else on this page describes the small, unavoidable technical traces that any website leaves.
Who is responsible
Bettitips is an independent project, and the people who run it are the controller for the data described here. Write to [email protected] for anything on this page β access, correction, deletion, or a complaint.
The operator's registered details appear on the imprint page as soon as a legal entity is registered for the project.
What we collect when you just browse
Nothing that identifies you personally, and no cookies. Our web server keeps short-lived request logs β the standard technical record every server writes β which include your IP address, the page requested, the time, and your browser's user-agent string.
These logs exist to keep the site running and to spot abuse. We do not use them to build a profile, we do not join them to any other data, and we do not sell or share them.
Things stored in your browser, not on our servers
Some conveniences are saved in your own browser's local storage. They live on your device, we cannot read them, and clearing your browser data removes them permanently:
- bt-theme β whether you chose the light or dark appearance
- bt-compliance-v1 β whether you dismissed the 18+ and affiliate notice at the top of the page
- bt-journal-bets-v1 β your betting journal entries, when you use the journal without an account
Cookies
Public pages set no cookies at all, so there is no consent banner to click through β there is nothing to consent to.
One cookie exists: a session cookie created when you sign in, because a login cannot work without one. It holds a random identifier, nothing about you, and it is marked HttpOnly, SameSite and Secure. It disappears when you log out or when the session expires. The cookie policy describes this in more detail.
Fonts are loaded from Google
We are telling you this plainly because it is the one place where your data reaches a third party without you doing anything. The site's typeface is currently loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests the font files from Google's servers and your IP address reaches Google in the process.
We do not consider this a good arrangement and intend to serve the font from our own servers, which removes the third-party request entirely. Until that ships, this section stays here so the page tells you the truth about what actually happens when you load it.
If you create an account
An account is optional. Everything on this site works without one; signing in only lets your betting journal follow you between devices.
We store your email address, a cryptographic hash of your password (never the password itself), and a display name if you supply one. If you sign in through Google, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook or GitHub, that provider tells us your email address and name β nothing more β and the provider learns that you signed in to this site.
If you use the betting journal
Without an account, journal entries never leave your browser. With an account, they are stored so they can sync, and each entry holds what you typed: date, sport, event, selection, odds, stake, currency, result and bookmaker.
This is your record of your own betting. We do not analyse it, sell it, share it with bookmakers, or use it for advertising. Deleting your account deletes every entry with it.
If you send us a message
The partnership and contact forms store the name, email address and message you submit, plus the IP address the message came from. The IP is kept purely to block spam and abuse, which is the only way a public form stays usable.
We also keep short-lived counters of failed sign-in attempts and form submissions per IP address, for the same reason. They expire automatically.
Analytics
Analytics is switched off by default on this site. If it is ever enabled, it will be a cookieless, privacy-preserving tool β Plausible or Umami β which counts page views in aggregate and does not track individuals across sites or store anything on your device.
We do not use Google Analytics, advertising pixels, or any cross-site tracking script.
Links to bookmakers
Some outbound links to operators are affiliate links, as the affiliate disclosure explains. When you click one you leave this site, and from that point the operator's own privacy policy governs what happens β including any tracking they do to attribute the referral.
We do not pass your email address, your journal, or any account data to operators. What they receive is the fact that a visitor arrived from us.
Where our AI tools fit in
We use AI tools in parts of our own editorial and development work β drafting, translating and reviewing material that a person then checks before it is published. The methodology and editorial policy pages describe how that is supervised.
This does not involve your data. Your account details, your journal entries and your messages are not sent to any AI service, and nothing you type into a calculator leaves your browser at all.
Legal basis for each use
Under the GDPR we rely on:
- Contract β running your account and syncing your journal, because that is the service you asked for
- Legitimate interests β keeping the site online, blocking abuse, and answering messages you send us
- Consent β anything optional that we would ask you for first, which today is nothing
- Legal obligation β where we must keep or produce records because the law says so
How long we keep things
Server logs are kept for a short operational window and then discarded. Anti-abuse counters expire within hours. Password-reset tokens expire within the hour and are stored hashed.
Account data and journal entries are kept until you delete them or close your account, which removes them immediately and permanently. Messages you send us are kept while the matter is open and for a reasonable period afterwards.
Who else sees your data
Our hosting provider processes data on our behalf in order to run the servers, under a contract that limits them to that purpose. Sign-in providers are involved only if you choose to use them.
Beyond that, nobody. We do not sell personal data, we do not share it for advertising, and there is no data broker in this picture. If we are ever compelled to disclose something by a valid legal order, we will comply only to the extent required.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to do any of the following, and we will not charge you or make it difficult:
- Tell you what data we hold about you, and give you a copy
- Correct anything that is wrong
- Delete your data β an account can also be deleted by you, in your account settings, without asking us
- Export your journal, which is available as a CSV download at any time
- Object to or restrict a particular use
- Withdraw a consent you gave, without affecting what happened before
Complaints
Write to [email protected] first β we would rather fix something than have you escalate it, and we aim to answer within thirty days.
If we do not resolve it, you have the right to complain to the data protection authority where you live or work. In the EU, any national supervisory authority can receive your complaint and will route it correctly.
Children
This site is for adults. Betting content is restricted to people aged 18 or over, and accounts are not for minors. We do not knowingly collect data from children, and we will delete it promptly if we discover we have.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has created an account here, write to [email protected] and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes materially, the date at the top of the page changes with it, and the previous version is superseded from that date.
We will not quietly widen what we collect. If a change means new data or a new recipient, this page will say so in plain terms.
